Safe Spaces Where Girls Help Girls Navigate Puberty in Refugee Camps

Empowering adolescent girls affected by the Syrian refugee crisis with tailored information about their sexual and reproductive health

The Syrian refugee crisis precipitated the need for tailored information about sexual and reproductive health (SRH). Access to this information helps combat gender-based violence and improve gender norms throughout the region. Recognizing an overabundance of SRH materials geared toward adults, Mercy Corps is convening Syrian adolescent girls to co-create SRH resources that address their needs. Mercy Corps is committed to building a toolkit designed by girls for girls, particularly for those under the age of 15 and not typically targeted by SRH programming. Once developed, Mercy Corps plans to ensure that the toolkit is open-source and can be adapted for the largest number of adolescent girls in need.
