Alex Nana-Sinkam

Design Director

Alex leads program, partnership and design strategy for IDEO.org’s Nairobi studio. As a systems designer, her work focuses on building programs and interdisciplinary design teams, setting the creative vision and theory of change for projects, identifying the systems-level strategy for design interventions and their local integration, and nurturing strategic partnerships while bridging capacity with local partners.

Prior to IDEO.org, Alex spent 4 years at IDEO leading the Global Equity portfolio (education, health, financial inclusion) for their open innovation practice. She designed programs focused on refugee inclusion services, vaccine immunization and racial equity in education with clients like the Gates Foundation, USAID, IDB, Imaginable Futures and GAVI. Her work at IDEO has been recognized by Fast Company and Forbes.

Alex holds a bachelor in international relations and masters in International Policy & Media Studies from Stanford University, where she focused on African Studies and wrote a thesis on the influences of technology within the continent’s education sector. She is currently pursuing a graduate degree in Clinical Psychology from Columbia University.

She is the proud daughter of a first generation Cameroonian father and an Irish-American mother. Please ask her more about: mental health awareness and advocacy, modern dance, science fiction (all mediums!), and growing up in the Republic of the Congo.
