Senior Design Researcher
As a Senior Design Researcher at IDEO.org Nairobi Studio, Maryann works across different project teams to help define research plans, identify the right research methodologies and questions to ask and collaborate with other designers to find creative ways to answer them. She is the user's champions and is continually looking to employ a variety of traditional and non-traditional research methods to gain empathy for the people we’re designing for.
Prior to joining IDEO.org, Maryann worked as a lead user experience designer for a startup that uses mobile technology and artificial intelligence to smartly connect farmers, input suppliers, and buyers in a digital marketplace both in Kenya and Ghana.
Previously Maryann worked as a digital product designer with various leading advertising agencies in Kenya where she worked on with award-winning campaigns both locally and internationally.
When she is not working Maryann loves spending time traveling with her daughter and exploring nature through hiking and biking. She is also a founder of Nairobi Design, a community of designers, product managers startup founders, and any other individuals who have an interest in using design thinking methods to solve their day to day design challenges. Through meetups and workshops, we share best practices and tips on how to maximize the power of design thinking to solve problems. She also writes on Medium.
